Perhaps, stating to yourself and others that you are grieving or depressed won't make things better. That way you are programming your body to linger in the negative mode. Try a different attitude and fight the misery rather than justify it.

All you need is a determination to overcome the current situation. Viewing grief or depression as a temporary setback is key!
